About Brazen Betties
Circa January 2009, a series of synchronistic events lead to the inception of Brazen Betties. Being unemployed, yet armed with a powerful feeling that all was well and in divine order, owner Julia Sloan ran into some good friends from seasons past. Rit and Karen O’Donnell of Remember When vintage store in Torrington encouraged Ms. Sloan to have a look at an available rent just a few doors down from their shop. Upon her first steps in the space she knew kismet was at work.
One idea kept igniting another. The snowball effect was in full effect! March 28, 2009 marked the grand opening. Brazen Betties’ and its ideology are meant to inspire creativity and to hopefully allow people to pursue what they love to do full time. Another objective is to bring together a community/network of Connecticut designers and artists.
Our Ideology
The inspiration that motivates this company is to “Be fearless without being foolish.” Fearless in the sense that your creative ideas; should not be hindered by self-doubt or any naysayer. Bring your desires and dreams to the forefront and nurture them. These times call for innovation and when taking the steps to develop your creativity, find clever ways to get there. Set yourself apart from the standard and make things happen in any capacity.
The statement “Be fearless without being foolish” completely embodies what being a “brazen Bettie” is all about. It inspires you to be tenacious and wise. Like many “Bettie’s” before us (Bettie Page, Bette Davis and Betty Mabry), set out with your fire blazing and don’t let any trepidation hold you captive.
Brazen Betties’ boutique specializes in clothing, accessories, home accents and artwork created by Connecticut designers and artists only. It will serve as one of the only outlets Connecticut fashion designers have for exposure and exhibition in the state.
